Your First Standard Session

  • Sessions last 50 minutes

  • Your first session includes contracting, where we agree together how we'll work

  • Focus is on exploring your concerns and experiences

  • You can bring a specific issue or simply explore how you're feeling

  • Counselling is a space to reflect, understand, and be heard, there's no pressure to "fix" anything

What is contracting?

Contracting is the process of agreeing the practical and ethical ground rules for our work together. In your first session, this usually covers:

  • Confidentiality, and the limits around it (for example, situations where I may be required to break confidentiality for safety reasons)

  • Practicalities like session length, fees, cancellation policy, and how we'll communicate between sessions

  • What's brought you to counselling and what you're hoping might come from it

  • How we'll check in on whether the work feels helpful as we go

Contracting isn't a formality to get through before the "real" work starts. It's part of building a working relationship where you know what to expect and can trust the space you're in.

How Sessions Work

  • Sessions are flexible, fitting around your schedule

  • You choose the topics and pace; I guide, support, and explore with you

  • We focus on understanding patterns, emotions, and experiences

  • Counselling is collaborative, together we find approaches that help you feel more confident, balanced, and understood

What You Might Notice During Counselling

  • You feel heard and validated without judgment

  • You gain clarity about your feelings, patterns, and choices

  • You notice small but meaningful shifts in confidence, perspective, or coping strategies

  • You have a safe space to explore sensitive topics, including identity, relationships, or personal growth

Counselling isn’t about being “fixed”, it’s about understanding yourself more clearly, exploring your experiences safely, and finding strategies that fit your life.

Every session is your space to talk openly, explore at your own pace, and feel supported in being yourself.
